Don’t Ignore Your Patients Questions or Symptoms

I was due with my rainbow baby after 2 miscarriages at the end of October. I had hyperemesis for 24 weeks and I started to develop PUPPS at 34 weeks. I started swelling and having headaches at 35 weeks. I gained 12 pounds in between 2 appointments. When I kept asking if I was okay. I got told repeatedly that this was just part of pregnancy and no I did not need to stop working my 12 hour nursing shifts early. No extra labs or urine samples were taken. At my 37 week appointment my blood pressure was 200/110 and low and behold I needed to go have a baby today. Immediately diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and needed to be induced immediately. I was on mag sulfate for 2 1/2 days. My induction failed. I ended up with a c-section and my baby in the NICU with grunting. My doctor dropped the ball and ignored completely obvious symptoms. My daughter and I are fine now, but my first delivery was a complete disaster. I had to take BP meds for the next six weeks. My next pregnancy I was watched like a hawk and everything was checked. It was fine and I was able to VBAC. They did everything they should’ve done the first time.
