There Is No “safe” Period Of Pregnancy

This was mine and my husbands first pregancy so we waited until 20 weeks (half baked) to announce on social media. At our 20 week ultrasound, baby girl was measuring less than 8th percentile and this was our first “sign” that anything was wrong. A week later at my month checkup I had high blood pressure for the first time. They sent me home with a prescription for a blood pressure cuff and to start tracking twice daily. Two weeks later, my blood pressure was in the 175s and even tho I felt totally normal I was admitted to the hospital with an official diagnosis of severe preeclampsia at only 23 weeks pregnant. After a week of 24/7 monitoring her heart rate showed signs of distress and she had reverse blood flow from the placenta so I had to have an emergency c section. She was born at 24 weeks 2 days gestation, less than 1 percentile, and lived in the nicu for 6 days until she gained her wings. I was released from the hospital the day before on blood pressure meds and blood clot injections.
