Postpartum Preeclampsia on Top of COVID

I was 25 years old when I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy. My pregnancy had no complications but when I was about 38 weeks, I was getting an ultrasound because I felt sick and they noticed I was leaking amniotic fluid. After immediately being sent to the hospital, they quickly realized I had COVID. It was my first pregnancy and I was mortified. Delivery went good and I was able to deliver vaginal with no issues (so I thought).

A few hours after having my baby I felt off. Headache, slight stomach pain but assumed it was just because I gave birth. Didn’t mention it to any nurses and continued to soak in the time with my new baby. Suddenly after getting blood drawn the nurses come in saying my liver enzymes were elevated & I need to be put on a mag drip & BP medicine. I was scared and hurt that this was happening because I had no idea you can have this complication after delivery. I was on the mag drip for 12 hours and after checking my blood & blood pressure again they noticed everything was ok.

After that I never had any issues since. To this day I am horrified thinking about how scared I was after I realized how serious what I had happen could’ve been. I wish and hope that we continue to encourage all women about this complication and that it to can happen after delivery. I am scared to grow my family but certainly hope I can.
