My name is Alyssa. I'm 23 years old from Oklahoma City. On 3/16/2025 I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy at 37 weeks at 6lbs and 2oz. At my 36 week check up my blood pressure was 150/90 with 3 readings back to back. I was diagnosed with Gestational Hypertension, and without any time to process the news I was scheduled for induction the next day. On 3/14/2025 I arrived at the hospital to start the process, and after nearly 2 full days, 3 bags of magnesium drip, and 2 rounds of pitocin, I entered motherhood. The next day I was discharged from the hospital thinking that I was finally free from the trauma. At a routine blood pressure check 2 days after my delivery, my blood pressure was 160/90. I was sent to the Emergency Room immediately, and upon arrival it had spiked to 228/117. That was the start of a one week hospital stay to save my life. I was hooked up to a catheter, magnesium drip, and loaded with dose after dose of blood pressure medication. For 3 days straight it seemed like no matter what the doctors tried, my blood pressure would not stabilize. I lost 11lbs of fluid retention weight because of my body being filled with so much disease. I was in and out of sleep. My face was purple. I was not allowed to hold my son unless I was supervised. I was fighting for my life every minute of the day while my medical staff fought for me. After one extra week in the hospital, I was finally released on 2 kinds of blood pressure medications. I stayed on them for the first 8 months of my sons life just to make sure I was stable. It was a traumatizing, long fight that has changed my life forever. I will never stop sharing my story and preeclampsia awareness.
In 2024, my husband and I received our long-awaited answered prayer—the pregnancy and birth of our first child, our daughter, Shira. Wh...
