My pregnancy journey started out with vanishing twin syndrome. After, I went in for a scheduled 30 week appointment just before my shift as a physician assistant in the ER that night. Instead of heading to work, I headed to a major city hospital in an ambulance with severely high blood pressure and signs of pre eclampsia. From there, I was hospitalized for 3 weeks before having to deliver due to thrombocytopenia or low platelets and concerns for developing HELLP syndrome. My daughter Maeve was brown weighing 2 lb 13 oz and spent 5 weeks in the NICU before heading home. 6 weeks after delivery my blood pressure normalized. My OBGYN and Maeve’s NICU team took the absolute best care of both of us and I am eternally grateful. Our week’s spent in the hospital both pre-natal and after delivery were the hardest of my life.
