Evan's Story: When Waiting for Delivery Was Not the Best Option

My story starts when I was 30 weeks with my first baby, Evan in 2019. During my 2nd trimester my blood pressure started creeping up. My OB told me to reduce my salt intake. But at my 30-week appointment my blood pressure was 160/100 and I had protein in my urine. I was immediately admitted to the hospital. The plan was getting to 34 weeks. I was to be in the hospital until delivery. I was terrified. There were several instances they almost delivered. My body just kept bouncing back, it was very weird. I thought it was a good thing. But the day before my planned induction I experienced a placental abruption. I thought I was going into labor because I had been having some contractions off and on. But when 10 nurses flooded my room, I knew something was very off. Then they could not find Evan’s heartbeat. I was quickly rushed to a C section. As they put me under general anesthesia, I had a feeling the outcome was not going to be good, but there was a small chance for hope. My husband was not with me at the time, but he arrived right after I came out of surgery. The doctors told us together that Evan did not make it. We were devastated (and still are). We spent a few hours with him. He was adorable. When I was discharged, I had spent 30 full days in the hospital. Because my preeclampsia was severe, I was told there is high chance it will happen again in future pregnancies. I have had a baby since and was preeclampsia free. So thankful for that. But I forever miss my firstborn, Evan.
