Post Partum Preeclampsia

I was 8 days post partum and I had gotten mild pneumonia after delivery with the flu. 3 days after my antibiotics I still didnt feel great but wasnt being allowed into my drs office for a visit because if covid. Later that night went to bed and at 2 am woke up just not feeling right. I was dizzy, light headed slower heart rate. I drove myself to hospital while my husband stayed home with our 3 child, 5, 15 months and 8 day old. Upon arriving i was taken for vital and my BP was 188/110 she retook 3 times took me back for bloodwork and ekg immediately. I was then taken to a bed and monitored for a few hours. My bp was not coming down I started getting a bad headache. I asked to use the bathroom as they wanted Urine sample and all that came out was blood. They put in a straight catheter to get another urine sampe and to see if there was more blood. I then was sent for a CT scan. More blood work, everything was normal except my BP. They wantes to do a lumbar punction to chexj for meningitis but i knew it wasnt that and told them no. I had no symptoms of it being menegitis. I kept asking to see my OB I just had a baby 8 days ago something had to be wrong from delivery. 3.5 later the ER dr finally called my OB who knew exactly what was happen. My ob and a nurse came running to the er with a wheelchair. I needed to be put on magnesium sulfate immediately. 20 mins of magnesium drips then another 24hours on it. Another catheter put in and leg compressions. 15 min bp checks. So hot from the meds. The next morning my bp had gone down but not enough i was put on meds to control it. I was released and was seen every week at my ob office to monitor blood pressure. 7 weeks later and weaned from meds i was completely off the meds. What i deal with now is constant anxiety over my blood pressure. Ptsd from the ER visit the nightmares of how i felt being on magnesium which is pretty much an out of ur body feeling. I am constantly calling my doctors to check my blood pressure and do bloodwork. My body had not felt the same since birth which today 1.18.24 is one year later. We work through it everyday and pray my bp stays normal! Be aware of how you feel dont be afraid to call your doctors. Women need to be educated on this. I never knew this could happen and its happening to way too many women.
