I would like to share my Pregnancy story (HELLP Syndrome) to help other women become more aware of the high risks and complications with carrying a child. One of the first symptoms I had was nose bleeding I was about 25 weeks excessive dizziness and throwing up but my gyno said it was normal and don't worry.
Imagine one day you are thinking of giving birth normal, and then you realize something is wrong. I had stomach pain, I was only 33 weeks pregnant thinking it was contractions since it’s my first baby did not know how that felt 3 days past by I went to the ER because, it was getting worse. The nurse checked my blood pressure it was so high, then extremely low blood pressure. The Doctor told me I need an emergency c-section because of it and they did an utlrasound to my baby and her heart beat was slowing down. Nurses rushing everywhere; next moment you know your incubated / life support can’t move or speak.
I had multiple surgeries aside from the emergency c section while dr was operating me they had to cut my stomach (laparotomy procedure) I was bleeding excessively and they didn’t know from where turns out my liver ruptured due to my high blood pressure. Drs had to pack my liver for 3 days to make it stop bleeding. was at the ICU for about 6 days . I had 15 units of blood transfusion because I lost so much blood from my liver. I was hospitalized for over a month had to start walking all over again. Was the hardest thing ever due the the surgeries I had any movement I did would hurt so bad that I had to hold a pillow and scream so loud evrytime I moved or coughed. Since all this happen during the pandemic, I had no visitors felt so alone but my baby girl gave me strength to finally have her in my arms.
My therapist helped me to walk again and It was the hardest thing to do. I was finally released but, 4 days after I had complications and was diagnosed with pleural effusion, water in my lung. I had to go back to the hospital and stay a few weeks I was able to go home and finally meet my baby. I was in antibiotics with a picc line and had a nurse come daily twice a day for about two months after being released from the hospital because of all the complications I had. While my baby was transferred to the NICU because she was not breathing on her own and end up staying for a month. I was so confused and couldn’t understand what just happened or why. All this could’ve been avoided if i was diagnosed with HELLP and drs ignored my symptoms.
My gynecologist didn’t t even know what was HELLP syndrome sadly. My pregnancy experience taught me to be more patient and caring with my own body, appreciate the second chance I was giving with my daughter, family and fiancé and overall enjoy every second I have because we never know how close we are to death.
My perfect daughter, Katie, gave birth to her first child just eight days before she passed away due to postpartum complications. Her deliver...
