I had some high blood pressure during the final weeks of my pregnancy. On February 20, 2020 I was leaving work and felt a pain in my abdomen, like my baby was pushing upward and wouldn’t move. My husband picked me up and we decided to go out to eat. As we were waiting to be seated I still had the pain and felt as though something was wrong. While I was seated, I felt as though my water had broke but when I stood up and looked under myself it was blood.

I told my husband we have to call an ambulance. I was hemmhoraging and losing a lot of blood.

The ambulance came and took me to the hospital. When I got there my baby’s heart rate was at 60 so they called code blue and sent me back for an emergency Cesarean section. My baby was not breathing when he was born but they got him to breathing and sent him to Children’s Mercy where he was put on a cold bed treatment and stayed in the NICU for almost three weeks. During my two day stay in the hospital I was given two blood transfusions as I lost 1000mL of blood and given magnesium for my liver enzymes.
