Preeclampsia may reveal a preexisting tendency to have chronic hypertension which contributed to your risk for developing preeclampsia. On the other hand, the "hammering" that your kidneys took may have resulted in the development of chronic hypertension.
In your case, both are probably true. It is important to treat your blood pressure. More and more we are finding that we should strive for normal BP's (120/70) rather than even high normal (eg. 140/85). Treatment is important to your long term health and if you wish to have another pregnancy may help there as well.

Increased BP after severe PE
Hi There.
I had 'normal' BP before a bout of PE at 24 weeks (del. 25 wks). I was very sick and my kidneys took a hammering. My BP has not returned to normal, and 1 year on is still treated with meds. Question - Is this fairly 'normal' after a particularly severe bout of PE?
Thanks for your time!
