Re : Status Update - Permits?
We have reserved the south ramada here at Papago Park in greater Phoenix, Arizona for our walk. After we map out a route and get the requisite letters from the PF for insurance etc. we will be submitting a Special Events Use Request or some such thing which the city will review to determine what our needs are for things like police and paramedics. They will let us know what their requirements are for such an event.
But we did at least get a site reserved -- spots for that weekend were going FAST around here.

Re : Status Update - Permits?
I just secured a city park here in Ann Arbor for our walk - Gallup Park. We only have to pay for the rental of a shelter there which we can use for registration/refreshments, etc. - that was only $22.00! I plan to take care of sending in that fee.
I need to check on whether any other permits are required by the city. Also, I've had an attorney friend say he thought we might be required to have an ambulance at such an event........anyone hearing this in their locations?

Re : Status Update - Permits?
Wendy, I'm located in Michigan, just north of Toledo. I will most likely be participating in the Ann Arbor walk. However, I would be willing to sponsor the $80 permit fee for the Toledo walk.
I just need to know if the check should be sent directly to you or should I send it to Seattle for accounting purposes?

Jaime~
Ok, I got our park and our route and everything secured for Toledo. It's an $80 fee, plus a $250 refundable deposit. I am paying the $80 on monday, at wchich time we will sign a liability release, and that takes care of any need for insurance, permits, etc. The $250 has to be paid by April 1. And then is refuded within the week after the walk, barring we don't trash the park. So, I will fax the invoice on Monday after I go to the park, fill out the paper work, and pay the $80. will I then be reimbursed?
Also, maybe I missed it - what about forms/applications for the walkers? How do we get those?

Re : Status Update - Permits?
Ideally, each location will be able to find a sponsor for the permit fee. If not, the PF will certainly pay for it and it will come out of the profits of the walk-a-thon. We will of course pay for it up front if needed and if you find a sponsor later, then they can just make the check out to the PF.
If you need a check, I need you to fax me an invoice from the City or a copy of the permit application or something. Our fax number is (952) 252-8096. Be sure to put on there who you want me to mail the check to.

Hi Guys-
Im STILL working on securing a spot for the Grand Rapids, MI walk....there are a lot of walks going on in this area in May, and a lot of run around...grrrrr! Anyways, in my area, premits to hold the walk are going to cost between $200 to $500...is the foundation going to pay for the permit???

Hi:
Just spoke with Tempe Risk Management.
We need insurance for:
$1,000,000 general liability
$1,000,000 per occurance with a 2,000,000 agragate
auto liablity min of $1,000,000, hired and non-owned
evidence of workers' comp insurance
The liability insurance is a must. $2,000,000 agragate is important. If the other items are not in place, we can discuss it with the city. PF is all volunteer. That makes a difference.
Does all of this sound familiar to you?

Re : Status Update - Permits?
Yes, insurance will be available through PF. I just need to get a list compiled of who needs to be insured and then we can send out certificates.

In Arizona, we are looking at a very popular place called Tempe Town Lake. Tempe hosts many events like this. In its permit process, it states that insurance must be secured for any event. Events at Tempe Town Lake can have fireworks, water activities, carnival rides, etc. I have put a call in to see what they want for a simple 50-100 person walk with no special requirments. Waiting for a reply.
Question, is insurance available through PF? What should I tell the Tempe Risk Management Dept?
