Re : Test for HELLP?
I was just coming here to ask the same question. It would be so awesome if there is a test to check for genetic factors for HELLP. I will have to ask to get tested for Antiphospholipid syndrome because I can't find it it all my blood work I had done.
Re : Test for HELLP?
Antiphospholipid syndrome.
IIRC the risk factors for HELLP are now thought to be roughly the same as for PE, but with a higher incidence in white women over 30. That's been changing, though.

Re : Test for HELLP?
What exactlly are the conditions pegged for conditions of Hellp? Is that the standard Lupus, clotting disorders. What is APS?

Re : Test for HELLP?
I sent the women over a email that said she and her husband are having this testing done. Hopefully I will come back with some news. I did see a genetic doc and they didn't say anything about any tests one as an indicator of PE or HELLP but you never know and I know we will all do whatever blood test is out there !:) Cant hurt!
Re : Test for HELLP?
Oh, that would be so wonderful.
Although knowing that you could have it would be good, it would be even better to know how to prevent it or stop it from happening!!

Re : Test for HELLP?
That's interesting -- if you hear any more, could you let us know? I suspect there are some conditions that are pegged to higher rates of HELLP which a bloodtest could pick up, like APS, but I'm completely unfamiliar with genetic testing, in the sense that I haven't seen it in PubMed or the industry news.

Re : Test for HELLP?
Gotcha...someone just had told me that herself and her husband were going to see if they both were carriers of Hellp. And that it was a blood test that a genetic counsler said to have done.
Re : Test for HELLP?
I've not heard anything about this. The idea as I understand it at the moment is that everyone's a carrier for HELLP, with the right partner. It's not that Person A has defective genes -- but that Person A plus Person B makes a hypertensive pregnancy when Person A plus Person C and Person B plus Person D would make perfectly normal pregnancies.
(And that's only for the subset of hypertensive pregnancies that are definitively pegged to wack placentation. Some of us, like maybe chronics, could just be susceptible to the proteins when they're produced in sufficient quantity. The researchers are still working on that bit.)

Test for HELLP?
I heard somewhere that there is a blood test that you and your significant other can have to see who is a carrier for hellp? LCHAD? Does anyone know anything about this?
