The only symptoms I had were swelling, vomiting and the pain under my ribs. My liver enzymes didn't rise until after I was admitted to the hospital. They thought I had low amniotic fluid so they induced me. After my afternoon bloodwork that day, they realized what was actually wrong and broke my water to hurry things up more.

I developed HELLP Syndrome during my 1 st pregnancy. My blood pressure had been great throughout most of my pregnancy. I felt pretty good for most of my pregnancy as well. I saw my OB when I was 31 weeks 6 days pregnant and things looked good, just a very small amount of protein in my urine but nothing major. Just a week and day later when I was 33 weeks, my back starting hurting. My doctor told me to put my feet up and drink lots of fluids because I was most likely over doing it at work with being on my feet all day. On Saturday Jan. 24, 2009, my mom took me to the ER because my back still hurt and I felt like something was wrong. I went to the ER at around 9:30am and at 1:38pm my daughter was born at 33 weeks 3 days weighing 3 pounds 4 ounces by emergency C-Section. I ended up in ICU for close to 2 days after my blood pressure crashed and my kidneys quit working. I really had no symptoms of the syndrome. My hands were slightly swollen in the morning but within a couple of hours of waking up the swelling was gone, so I was not that concerned about it. I was lucky that I went to the hospital when I did, I nearly died from this syndrome I knew nothing about before being told I had it. I hope that things turn out better for you and you do not have this syndrome because here I am 21 and so scared of getting pregnant again because I could get the syndrome again in future pregnancies.

I Also had HELLP without the symptoms until last minute. 2nd pregnancy, occasional raised BP, but not excessive. Just general malaise the entire pregnancy and swelling ankles only. at 32 weeks the wheels fell off and I got the epigastric pain, high BP(due more to pain than anything else), protein in urine and low platelets. I was hospitalised for 4 daysand on bed rest therafter, but everything normalised and I was discharged. The next day everything went haywire and Ella Faith was born at 33 weeks, General anaethetic, emergency Caesar.

I had HELLP with my first pregnacy. I had typical signs of pre-e (high blood pressure & protein in urine) but no signs of HELLP. Even with my platelets in the 70's and Hgb around 7. I never delevoped RUQ pain either.

Well, right now my platelets look pretty good at 235. Everything else was within "acceptable" limits. I am seeing a peri tomorrow for a biophysical profile on my boy to make sure my prematurely aging placenta isn't causing him problems. I am much less stressed, and very confident that if things start to change that my doc will advice me of it and we will take the appropriate actions. It is just comforting to know that I am not alone in presenting "abnormally". *Fingers crossed* that everything stays good for at least the next 3 weeks.

I had nothing! My BP was high, but no protein in my urine (well, trace)...My platelets were at 120K when I went in for my C-section so maybe they just caught it early...before symptoms came about.

After delivery they got to 98K, but I was so magged out I felt weird, but comfortable.

Thanks so much for your input ladies. I will be keeping close tabs on any worsening back pain, and if I feel like I am having a gallbladder attack I will head straight to the hospital (I don't have one anymore). If my appetite changes or my urine changes I will keep close tabs on that too. I will have the results of my liver panel in the morning, and be keeping my fingers crossed that all is ok on that front. Thanks again for sharing with me.

Gradual then it socked me. I felt like I had the stomach flu for about two weeks off and on. I had pain under the right rib that came and went. The acute care clinic said I had indigestion and gave me the malox cocktail. That helped for about 30 mins. When I went to my ob appt several days later, my ob told me it was my liver swelling. Still she didn't explain what it all meant. She just told me I was being admitted for observation and would be out the following Monday. I had a 2 day old baby by that Monday. I felt fine when admitted besides that rib pain and nausea. I got socked with it at midnight 3 days after being admitted. I was told no to a csection because my blood was not clotting correctly.

I had HELLP and it came on fast. No blood pressure issues, no protien in urine - though i did have swelling which i just chalked up to twins and the summer heat. I just didn't feel right and after the docs sent me home after running every test in the book - I ended up right back at the hospital that night with what I thought was my gallbladder acting up (uncontrollable vomiting) from the McDonalds I had for dinner. But as we waited for the gallbladder specialist - my doctor realized my numbers were dropping quick and I had HELLP. About 6 hours later my platelets were at 13K, I was receiving all sorts of blood products and being prepped for an emergency c-section under general anesthesia.

I'm just glad I trusted my body and went into the hospital that night.

I've had hellp twice and both times it was gradual for a while and then worsened fast. Both times I had mild URQ pain and mid back pain on the right side. I also felt tired and mildly nauseated. The first time I got really nauseas and vomited for a week before delivery. The second time my blood was being checked regularly so we saw my platelets slowly drop for 3 weeks and my enzymes climb for 1 week before my amniotic fluid got low. The second time I got tingly slightly swollen hands too.

It's very stressful waiting to see what happens, so if you feel reassured getting weekly blood tests or something like that you should ask.
