A less nauseating way than Robitussin is to use Mucinex, which is an over-the-counter pill that contains 600 mg of guaifenesin, the active ingredient in Robitussin. It's more costly than Robitussin (it runs $16-20 for a bottle of 40 pills, depending on where you buy it), but I'll take that over the nasty Robitussin any day! If you don't see it out on the shelf with the cold and cough remedies, ask the pharmacy if they have it. Some pharmacies special order it and keep it back in the pharmacy.

I never tried the green tea, but I used Robitussin both times ttc and it has worked for both pgs. Because it thins CM, there is a widespread rumor that you are more likely to conceive a boy this way (faster swimmers). My sister-in-law used Robitussin when ttc, the two times she took it faithfully, she got boys, the two times she didn't, she got girls. Who really knows though? I had a boy the first time, but I won't be able to find out the gender of this one for at least 5 more weeks. Good luck!!

If you end up going the clomid route (which I hope you won't have to) you may want to ask your doc to put you on estrogen at the same time. Basically you take the clomid for 5 days and then the estrogen for the next 5 days. This make your CF more friendly (as my doctor put it) because the clomid actually makes it less friendly, so I guess the two balance eachother out.

Good luck!

And yes, the robitussin does work. I take it for allergies from time to time and I notice a change.

I haven't heard of the green tea but, I have heard of the Robitussin though. I also checked in TCOYF and here is what it said about the Robitussin (p. 173)

For "Limited Fertile-Quality Cervical Fluid"
Try taking an expectorant found in cough syrups such as Robitussin, or long-acting tablets of Humabid LA, both of which have the active ingredient guaifenesin. Along with helping to liquefy mucus in the lungs, it also has the added benefit of making your cervical fluid wetter. So if you only produce sticky or creamy cervical fluid, you could try this dosage: 2 teaspoons, 3 times a day, starting several days before your anticipated ovulation through to the 1st day of your temperature shift. (Caution! Be sure use plain Robitussin, since other types can actually dry up your cervical fluid.)

I hope it works for you!

questions about green tea and robitussin

Postby steelsword328 » Tue Jul 13, 2004 01:10 pm

Has anyone ever used green tea to boost fertility or robitussin to increase cervical mucous?--and had a successful pg? I've been reading some things on it and it doesn't seem harmful, so I started drinking my 1/2 cup green tea today and taking robitussin 2 teaspoons 3x/day. Any thoughts on this? I do have some problems with significant CM so I thought this may help.
