Yes, absolutely. See the links in my .sig for some popular science writing on the current theory. :-)

i was told by my obstetrican that the latest theory of pre-eclampsia related to a baby sending out hormones from teh placenta.

this would also explain that the babies are at a higher risk of high blood pressure.

the environment prebirth is as important as environment after birth

Interesting. I too have normal BMI, no hips, and the weight I do put on goes to my belly!
Like JGRUMET mentioned, I also think I have higher fat to muscle ratio, although am skinny if that makes sense. Working on that though.

I'd like to know on which planet exactly does Catherine's butt count as big? I must need my eyes tested.

May I just note that they used one big ol' fancy gizmo to calculate those values.... "METHODS: Women were compared for body composition and fat distribution variables, assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and anthropometrics at a mean follow-up time of 10.8 (SD +/- 5.9) years after pregnancy."

Heavens, a scale and a tape measure must be so twentieth century!!

ETA: Upon consideration, look when they are doing the evaluation.... my body doesn't look now like it did 3 children ago........

It was just distribution.

Caryn, I admit I did not read the study, would weight loss between pregnancies affect this, or is it distribution of that weight?

You know, I wondered about that too, Nicole. It doesn't explicitly say that they controlled for PCOS.

Could this have any relation to PCOS? I know they look a lot at waist-hip ratio in PCOS patients.

my measurements to date 36 22 34 I'm breastfeeding and my pregnancy widened my hips....I'm just scrawny I'm jealous of all you big bottomed women!

okay so obviously my bmi was low, but what about fat to body weight ratio? no muscle all fat? would that increase your risk?
