We had both reflux and frequent hiccups. The hiccups started when I was pregnant (so much so that I was researching whether something was wrong!), but I don't think I ever made a connection with the reflux. We were on a prescription to reduce the acid, and were told to thicken his bottle (I'm not sure how much it helped with the reflux but did make him gain a lot of weight). I don't remember reflux/hiccups being much of an issue by the time he started solids.

I hope your DS's reflux gets better soon!!

We were told in NICU that Hiccups are actually a "preemie thing". The muscles and nerves don't always work in perfect harmony in the beginning. They eventually grow out of it. BUT, if they have reflux, the hiccups put pressure on the tummy and can cause them to spit-up.

My newest DD has hiccups all the time. I suspect she also has reflux, but only a mild case (compared to what my twins had!). My twins had severe reflux, but I can't remember if they had hiccips a lot or not. Sorry I'm not more help.

Reflux and hiccups

I suspect my DS has reflux. I was just wondering if your babies with reflux got the hiccups alot? My DS always seems to get hiccups and when he does, up comes half his bottle. Is frequent hiccups a symptom of reflux?
