SueAnn and Jackie the links and comments you made, make me think back to when my sister & I were little and played with the real Little People. I remember we had the house that closed up, the tree house and the garage. Its hard to belive that all that stuff is coming back but in bigger sizes so little ones won't choke. They even had the retro school house and barn!!

I am def going to have a good time putting together a list for Gabrielle!!

I found this adorable cash register too http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.js ... Id=3540667

They even have the "retro" one we used to have.. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.js ... Id=2674710

Am also going to put this one on our list too since Gabrielle just loves to throw balls!

My kids played forever wtih the Little People toys; I still have them for grandkids. We had a bunch of sets that they don't even make anymore and they spent hours with them.
This may have already been mentioned, but my granddaughter got an Easel when she was 2, and my daughter had it set up with lots of paper, crayons and markers (the washable kind of course). She did get to use paint, but with supervision. She would stand and draw and color for the longest time and it really kept her amused. She is 16 now and still remembers her easel as one of her favorite toys.
She also loved her kitchen set at that age, with the little play food and dishes.
Toys for that age are so much fun!

Hallie,

My godkids have the Leap Frog Barn magnet toy. It's cute and funny - because you can mix the animals up - like make a pig/cow. They don't use it a ton though - the letter set has longer lasting appeal. Honestly, I think she'll get more play out of toy play sets like the Little People ones.

And to answer your question, here's a few Little People sets she might like:
Farm: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.js ... Id=2443512
Ark: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.js ... Id=2334558
Zoo train: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.js ... Id=2863494
Garage: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.js ... Id=2634534
Raceway: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.js ... Id=3088132

One thing I forgot on my initial list was picture books - a step up from the board books. I can suggest a few good ones if you'd like.

Everyone has such great ideas! DH & I are def going to have to sit down and make a list!! Thanks everyone!!

I know its hard to belive that she will be 2 already! Its seems like time is flying by...all to quickly for my taste. There will be another tearful b-day party under my belt LOL.

Kara: We actually have one of those tricycles that my sister gave me from her boys. Gabrielle LOVES that thing, just the other day she was pushing it herself. She has even figured out how to stear the handles when we go for walks. LOL!!

My parents/sister-BIL were lucky enough to get the Step 2 water/sand table for a steal because Step 2 came out with a new version and their store was having a clearence sale, so my parents ran up to the store and got it. The old version they got Gabrielle has the best umbrella...its a lot thicker than the newer one they came out with.

Has your little ones played with the Leap Frog barn magnet set? If they have how do they like it? Gabrielle is big into animals and thought that would be a cute thing to have. She has the letter one that she just adores using.

Do the little people have race cars and barns? She is big into race cars too!

My oldest loved her sidewalk chalk. We would just draw and draw during the summer. She also liked interactive books. The larger size "lego" type blocks might be good.... learning how to build things....princess castles, shopping malls, my daughter built a whole town with those things. She loved them.

Musical instruments. Alexander is a big fan of all kinds of instruments (guitar, drums, tambourine, maracas, etc.). His Step2 kitchen is also a big hit with him and his friends. I can't tell you how many "sandwiches" I've eaten lately :)

AquaDoodle is nice - art but just with water. :) PlayDoh, chalk, bubbles & any kind of art stuff are a favs here. Dress up stuff - ballerina & princess clothes & jewelry are daily needs. Cute nightgowns and PJ's are also good "hint" gifts because it's hard to go wrong - clothes are more taste specific IMO.

To add to it:
My girls LOVE microphone toys that amplify their voices.
Pianos are TONS of fun!
Jaidyn got a Thomas the Train table for her second birthday.. still a huge hit!

I can't believe she is almost 2! The water table sounds great.

Open ended toys are great for this age:
Little people toys
Pretend play stuff: baby dolls and accessories, cash register and shopping cart
Dress up clothes
Puppets
