My 36-weeker who weighed 6.0 lb at birth was only 32 pounds when she went for her pre-school physical last summer and she was 4 years old. Her doctor didn't seemed concerned at all.

Kailey is 3 and weighs 28 lbs. She looks totally normal to me, and eats like crazy. It never occured to me she is behind the 8 ball at all. She is 38" tall and altho doesn't have that 'toddler chubby' look, she looks perfectly healthy and normal.

Wanted to say that they do finally catch up. Kirsten started catching up at 51/2. All of a sudden she had an appetite. Whereas before we had to coax her. She weighed 15lbs 3 oz at 1 year, so I know about strangers making comments and it used to frustrate me to no end. To imply that you are not feeding your child enough when you could spend 2 hours coaxing her to eat anything. It does get better though. She is totally totally normal.

My sisters daugher is 3 (turned 3 in November) and she only weighs 28 lbs. She was born at 40 weeks weighing 6 lbs. 9 ounces. She was sick and on meds between the age of 6 months to 2 1/2. I really do think your daughter is doing great considering what she weighed when she was born. What does her ped say?

my dd was 29w and also IGUR. she has always been one to eat very little at each meal but tends to eat a little a million times a day. she reached 30 lbs between 3 1/2 and 4 years old. she was 24 lbs at 2 years old. we always thought that as long as she was continuing to grow at a steady rate and not staying the same at check ups then she was eating what she needed. she is skinny but she is also really tall. I always hear the "she never eats" especially from family and her preschool but its just because she doesnt eat as much as other kids in one meal.

I would love to be in your shoes, and I think your daughter is doing fine! You need to come up with some zingers for strangers who just feel the need to comment. :)

To give you a perspective, Abigail is 2 and is 15lbs 6oz. Of course, she was 25w, 1lb 1oz, and IGUR, and also a lot of feeding issues. So, your little girl is not doing bad at all.

Ok, I'm back, with more about my almost-30-weeker Andrew:
He weighed 30 lb. 8 oz. at his 2-year-old well check. I'd forgotten, and now seeing that Ethan is nowhere near that, and his well check is Thursday..........[:0] But, again, Ethan had IUGR and Andrew didn't. Hope this helps.

Tommy just turned two and he's almost 30 lbs. He was a 34 weeker.

OK I apparently have the butterball of the crew. Grant will be 2 at the end of the month and is 32 lbs. He's a snacker though.

I saw how you said she isn't a "meal eater" and Grant usually isn't either. He likes to munch off of people's plates at various times. We were concerned b/c of his weight and the Ped told us (today, actually) that if he's hungry, let him eat!

Since you have a girl that was tiny to start off with, I don't really see a problem with her weight. It looked ok to me....it's when I saw other people's that I started worrying about my chunky monkey....
