I'm not an insomniac (I usually fall asleep immediately when I go to bed at night), but I don't need much sleep. Around 6 hours per night is well enough for me, and I'm practically never sleepy tired. I can sleep for longer, though, if I get a chance.

Waves. Yup, 3 hours in bed staring at the ceiling tonight, so here I am.

The problem is caffeine after noon. More self-control around chocolate needed.

I have significant sleep issues, though insomnia per se isn't usually one of them. I dream vividly all night and don't get refreshing sleep. And that does make it hard for me to keep my weight in check, I think, because my body is trying to make up for the lack of sleep asks for more fuel to keep me going. I had a baseline echo and ekg after PE, so they'll be able to see changes in my heart as I grow older.

I was an insomniac for a while before I started thyroid meds. Insomnia is a hypothyroid symptom for my mother also. Hypothyroidism may also increase cardiovascular risk factors.

I've been wondering about this, because I'm not sure they accounted for the difference between deliberately shortchanging your sleep because of your work schedule or whatever, and being an insomniac.

There are a *lot* of insomniacs on the boards. :-) <waves to Leslie>

Guess I'm one of them since I have trouble sleeping and they say people who have trouble with sleep also gain weight and it will also take years off your life.(?)

People who don’t get much sleep are more likely than those who do to develop calcium deposits in their coronary arteries, possibly raising their risk for heart disease, a new study has found...
