We were sorry to hear about the loss of your child. In answer to your question, it is clear that those with hyperthyroidosis (increased thyroid hormone production) are at an increased risk for preeclampsia. It is also clear that these women generally might benefit from hormone replacement therapy and close TSH and T4 monitoring. Speak with a perinatologist to confirm your suspicions and to ensure that she is getting appropriate pregnancy management.

Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome

Postby tcouch » Mon Apr 28, 2003 10:40 am

My wife and I lost a child last July to early P/E. She is now pregnant (13 weeks) and we think she has a thyroid condition called Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome. One major indication is her constant low body temp ( usually 97.5).
Can this be related to P/E ? In some of the literature it says that this condition causes second trimester miscarriage. We just left a voice mail for our specialist but have not heard back as of yet. Also there is a defenciency of T3 & T4 hormone caused from this.
What would be the treatment and what should we say to our doctor to determine if this is indeed an issue.
