Permanent damage is not known to occur to the best of my knowledge. I would see a gastroenterologist or a general internist to evaluate for possible gallbladder problems, gastric ulcer, etc. and the list goes on.

Long-term effects of HELLP

Postby mbhello » Thu Aug 28, 2003 11:50 am

I had HELLP with my daughter who was born 1 1/2 years ago. When she was about 5 or 6 months old, I started getting pain very similar to the pain I had when I had HELLP (mid-upper, intense back pain). Sometimes it's not that bad, but sometimes it's almost as bad as the pain I had when I was pregnant (which caused the doctors to induce my labor). I've gotten the pain about once a month since then. Could I have some permanent damage to my liver? What type of doctor should I see to evaluate this? Thanks for any help.
