It sounds like you are in good hands. Please let your doctor know if you have any new or worsening symptoms. Here is a link to our signs and symptoms page for reference: www.preeclampsia.org/symptoms.asp

Let us know how that appointment goes tomorrow,

No high risk ob. I live in a small town. When I got pregnant I talked with my primary care dr and I screened this dr as well. He has successfully treated patients with Pre-eclampsia and other problems. He was seeing me every week to two weeks up until about 4 weeks ago. That appointment went great, the Aldomet was doing its job and there was no protein, so he told me I could go 4 weeks. He said if my lower BP number stayed at 95 to call him immediately. If I had any problems to call immediately and he would make it a point to see me. Since I have an appointment with him on Friday and I know what to look for, I decided to wait and see. PE took its sweet time the last time and I hoping it does the same. Any way the dr has done everything that the specialist would have done. they have run enzyme panels, the kidney function panels, done the 24 hr urine test, and I have had 4 ultrasounds (1 for spotting at 7 weeks, 2 for no HB, and 1 routine). Turned out that the no hb one was just that the baby is extremely active. I just don't remember everything happening this early. I commute an hour each way to work every day and yesterday I ran errands and went to some stores after work. So my feet were pretty swollen and my bp was at 90, but it had dropped from the previous night. This morning, the swelling was still there a bit but not nearly as bad as it was last night. My headache is gone. My fingers are not that swollen any more. I guess I would feel better having the blood drawn and seeing what the results are. That should be able to give me a better idea of where I stand. One thing that he did say is that if I needed to be transferred they would transfer me immediately to Childrens which is 45 minutes away. So, I do have that option. Any way, thanks for the comments and I'll update on Friday with what he says.

Call your OB with your concerns. I would think that another 24 hour urine would be in order. It sounds like you are well educated about pre-e - make sure you call in with headaches that don't go away, seeing spots, stars or flashing lights, swelling in your face, hands and /or above feet that doesn't go away overnight or right sided heart-burn like pain with or without nausea and vomiting. Take good care of yourself. BTW - do you have a high risk OB that you are working with? If it were me I would feel much safer if one were in charge of my care.

Good luck to you.

Sabrina,

Any time you are concerned about symptoms, it is a good idea to call your doctor. They may want to adjust your meds or run more labs, like you said.

23 weeks is great - lets get another 11-14! Let us know what your doctor says.

Questions

Postby missgamecock » Tue Sep 01, 637339 11:55 am

Hi, I check out the board once in a while but don't post much. I am currently 23 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. My daughter was born at 36 weeks due to severe pre-eclampsia and possible Hellp (I know the preeclampsia part was diagnosed, but she was born in a Belgian hospital and I didn't speak french). We were US military overseas. The liasion said that my liver enzymes were extremely bad, my kidneys were bad, my bp was through the roof, and my platelets were down. So I suspect that I had HELLP as well. Anyway, with this preganancy, my BP was high from the beginning. At 17 weeks they put me on 250mg of aldomet 3x's a day. That dropped it to anywhere from 105-130/78-88. Before the medicine it was like 150/108. The last couple of days the top number has been running 130-138 and the bottom number has been consistently 90-95. After laying down the top number drops to around 120-130 but that bottom number stays the same. My dr ran all of the blood tests and a 24 urine at various intervals in this pregnancy. I believe the last was at 15-18 weeks. So it has been awhile since they have run it. My last appointment was a 4 week appointment (the first this time around). All of my blood tests and urine dips have been good up to 4 weeks ago (havn't been tested since then). My next appointment is Friday. Can they up the bp medicine? I have started to have headaches again. Can't tell with the nauseau because I had severe morning sickness from day one and I take Zofran every day. I have had swelling in the hands and feet. I feel like it is a matter of time before my blood tests and urine tests go bad. I remember when I had my daughter, before I was admitted that it felt like I had the flu. I don't feel like that now. This preganancy is running about the same as my daughter except that I started BP meds earlier and having headaches earlier. The headaches go away with rest and tylenol. Any advice. I am hoping to get to 34 weeks. As long as my blood tests and urine are good, I am hoping that buys me some time. 11 weeks seems like a long time still. Do you think I should ask the dr to run the tests again, he probably will, he seems pretty cautious. I also want to see if he can order another ultrasound to check on the baby's growth. Thanks, Sabrina due 7/27/05.
