Kara,

My doc did tell me that Atenolol could cause growth restriction. Luke was monitored closely for it with u/s.

Julie.....
I think it's great your Doc has you on meds....
I know what you mean about feeling almost a sigh of relief about the high cardiac output.....it's a reason. Others can't understand that. You are in great hands......I know it's hard, very hard to be optimistic in light of all that you and DH have gone through.......just know there are tons of (((hugs))) hopes, and prayers coming at you from ALL over the place.
Take care hon.

Julie, I will be thinking of you and praying through this pregnancy! You have helped so many others! It's wonderful to have a doctor that on top of things, and to have him testing all that needs testing.

It is very hard with friends that don't understand, not because they don't want to, but because they have never been through it. I gave up on trying to make mine understand! Just settled for having them help if they could!

I too did all I could early in the pregnancy, knowing that probably at the end I would be in bed, which I was. That's another thing people commented on---they kept saying "you have nine months to get ready!" but I knew I probably didn't!

I will be watching for all your updates!!

Julie,
Thanks for the update. It sounds on the whole that everything went. I know its weird to feel like we are glad when there is a problem, something our "normal" friends could never understand. But if there is a problem, we can treat it, and then we have a fighting chance. So, I really hope you make it to the 32 week mark. I am feeling good vibes!!!

So question for you, did the Doc say the atenolol will cause growth restriction or would it purely be due to the cardiac output issue? I remember reading something here about BP meds causing IUGR, so I wasn't sure if atenolol did the same.

I defintiely think we are up against the same issue because Max was already showing small at my 20 weeks US. Something my lovely OB at the time didn't do anything about. So we will see at 14 weeks what happens.

Julie,
I hope that the meds do the trick. I agree, pray and enjoy the pregnancy as much as you can. At least you now know what you are up against. Looking forward to hearing some great updates from you!

Julie,

Glad to hear that your appointment went well. As for the Atenolol I really credit it with making it as far as I did. My symptoms slowed considerably once I was on it. Hope it does the trick for you. I cannot imagine how scared you are. Just know we're all here for you.

Julie - I ended up with the same diagnosis and got put on 50 mg of Atenolol which went up to 100 mg soon there after. Did they tell you to do 3 hours or so of bedrest a day? They did for me - it made me feel better to be doing something (or doing nothing as the case may be). Although it is scary knowing, I felt very well armed with all of my knowledge - you won't let things go this time that you wrote off last time. Take care.

Joy
