I would have to echo the others and say that I would be nervous. I would get a second opinion if you could!

My husband panicked and went out and got me a blood pressure cuff to check it at home. At home it has dropped to around 104/74 which is very good news. We looked for the strips to dip the protein, but couldn't find any where we live-but we live way out in the country.

I saw a mfm specialist at the begining who prescribed lda, calcium, magnesium, fish oil, and a prenatal. She would only see me again if I got pe/had other trouble, as the specialists office is about an hour and a half away-along with the hospital I would need to go to if I deliver at 34 weeks or earlier.

I did get a call from them today to tell me that the checked my iron again, and that it was too low. I think it was around 10 from what they said, so they also started me on iron supplements two times a day. Would that affect anything related to pe?

I talked to them, and they still won't do an ultrasound until the next visit, so for now I am monitoring my pressures at home, taking it as easy as I can, and continuing to take all the supplements. The goal is first to make it to 34 weeks so we can have the baby local (by local, I mean about 45 minutes away) and then on to the goal of 37 weeks and a scheduled c section. I've never had a scheduled c section before! Always last second emergencies!

Thanks for the info!

I'd definitely ask for a 24 hour urine and be keeping an eye on your blood pressures at home. And yes, that blood pressure does seem high for you. That's why I like getting NST's 2x weekly because they always take my blood pressure and have established that around 110/70 is normal for me.I know they wouldn't rush to call it PE or even extremely alarming at 120/80 but it will have their radar up for more trouble around the corner, but that's only +10 from my normal and it sounds like your blood pressure is much higher than +10. What is your blood pressure at home running?

I would be a bit nervous, given your history. Do you have any way of checking your BP's at home? Is this Dr. your MFM doc or just your OB? Are you seeing a MFM and have they given you anything like LD Asprin to help prevent PE? If he's not nervous, the best you can do is watch your BP's at home and if it's not creeping up and no other symptoms you might be fine. Another thing you can do is dip your urine yourself. Buy some strips at the store and test every day. If you start going higher than trace then go back in.
I stay at trace protein my entire pregnancy but last time I bumped to 4+ very quickly.

I would be a bit nervous. I think most of us who have had PE would. I would a least have him do another 24 hour urine on you . As at least this would detect PE. An ultrasound as much as it can detect IUGR, there is no cure for it. I would be calling and demanding an appointment before 2 weeks. IT only took me took weeks to end up in L&D with PE with my daughter. I went in at 25 weeks and at 27 weeks called with high BP no one listened so I went to L&D and came out a week later after giving birth early. So I know and you know how fast things can change. Call again!

Would you be nervous?

Postby jennashell » Thu Mar 10, 2011 07:04 am

The whole pregnancy I have had no protein, and bp's in the 105/65 range. The baby seemed to be fine and was growing okay. Yesterday I went in and had trace protein and my bp was 128/78!! The doc kept saying it was within normal range and not to "borrow trouble". I had wanted to do an ultrasound since by now our babies have iugr, and we hadn't checked in about a month. He said no, she was fine and poked around my stomach for a while and said she was about 3 lbs. How would he know that?

Anyway, he told me to come back in 2 week, when I'll be 32 weeks along. Then he'll do the ultrasound. That seems like a long time away if my numbers are creeping up.

Any thoughts?
