it doesn't mean anything and the doctors will tell you that it is possibly too early to see anything- you will probably see a sac by now, but you may not see a hb. If they are unsure or if there is no hb then they will reschedule another ultrasound and have you come back in probably a week later. Honestly I thought the early u/s would put my mind at ease but then we didn't get hb until week 6, so it made me more nervous. Just have patience and try not to worry.

I saw heartbeats both times at 6 weeks 0 days. I had a u/s this last pregnancy at 5 weeks 3 days and all that was seen was the sac and the yolk sac. It was deemed a threatened miscarriage because I was having some spotting - 3 days later we see the little flicker :)

I found out I was pregnant at 5w4d by ultrasound. At that point we only saw a sac. At the next appt a week later there was a heartbeat.

I know the military docs won't give an U/s until about 6 weeks as to not stress us out so early.

I agree with Jules- sometimes you can't see too much on the early ultrasounds which makes you worry more- especially where I had a few miscarriages before. If they don't see much, they won't say much either- they usually will make you come back 3-5 days later for another if you don't see much. This pregnancy I had a heartbeat at 6 weeks 1 day, but there was still nothing really to see on the ultrasound. The one at 8 weeks was much better.

Try not to worry too much

Personally, I would prefer not to have one a US that early as I think its more stressful if you don't see HB because its too early to interpret what that means. I did have quantitative betas in this pregnancy so I knew it was probably ok, but I did not have a US till 7+6. I do have a history of mmc though.

Hope you get to see the HB!

Generally you can see the little flicker by 6 weeks. 5 weeks is still pretty early so don't worry if you don't see it.

I think at that point you could see it but I dont think you hear it until a few weeks later, I think we heard the HB at like 10 weeks and we saw it around 5 weeks. Hope you have a great U/S

I think it's really 50/50 at that point. I had my first ultrasound at 5 weeks 4 days (I think) and did see a HB. I hope you get to see one as well!
