24 Hour Urine?
Re : 24 Hour Urine?
I spill lots of protein too (lots is relative to normal), but about 300mg when not pregnant. My docs do essentially subtract the baseline from any future pregnancies. I have recently started a very low dose of an ACE inhibitor to help protect the kidneys from worsening as my protein spillage has gotten worse over the last couple years. My MFM thinks that even mild kidney problems can contribute to PE, but that's why they do the baseline and watch you more closely. Hang in there.

Re : 24 Hour Urine?
My baseline was 206 at 9 weeks. I was really worried - but it stayed in the mid-upper 200s until 29 weeks. My MFM did in fact consider me as having PE when my urine went to 350 mg ( he said he doesn't subtract the baseline).
It wasn't until a few weeks after that that I started dipping +3 and feeling awful and I personally think this was when the PE set in.
So my MFM thinks my baseline is o.k. and my boss is a nephrologist who says I maye want to watch it every few years with a test to make sure it is staying stable - but that it is not a problem at teh level it is at now.

Hey that's what we're here for!! Glad to help! :)

OMG Trish, I didn't even think about it like that. Thank you so much! I always trust the OB that told me this, but I couldn't help but wonder what it meant if it was so close to 300. She seemed real calm about it so I knew it couldn't be a huge concern.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Re : 24 Hour Urine?
Some people regularly have protein in their urine. I know my mother is one of those people. My 4-year-old is actually having a 24-hour urine collection done because he had protein in his urine at his last well check. It could have been because he was starting to come down with something (he ran a fever a few days later which can affect it) or because he's just one of those people who already has a little protein in his urine.
Re : 24 Hour Urine?
That's why they do they baseline. If you hadn't done one they might be concerned if they tested & found you were at 254. But that's sort of like your zero now & they won't consider it PE or be concerned until more like 554 (your base plus 300). I know it's got to be hard not to worry but go ahead & trust your OB on this one. (((HUGS)))
24 Hour Urine?
I had my baseline done at 9ish weeks. I just found out it came back at 254. Isn't that kind of high? I know 300 is the cut-off. My OB wasn't too concerned and said I just dump more protien. But now all i can think about is how it's climbing in numbers.
Any thoughts?
