I've had super low readings during my 2nd tri... my lowest was 94/47, and that was only a few weeks ago (maybe 26 weeks along?). Now that I'm 28 weeks, I'm starting to see it go back up. I don't think I've had a reading in the 90's-100's/40-50's at all this week. I'm still running pretty low though... 110's/60-70's.

Agree with Sonja that that rule goes for ALL pregnant women but don't agree that 98 over 58 is that unusual for a regular non-hypertensive pregnant women. My perinatologist said it's completely normal to run 90 over 60 while pregnant during the "dip". And it sounds like you are tracking similar to me (I had same readings even with HELLP). I think I started to dip around 23-24 weeks and from that point til about 32 weeks I was running 90 over 60 and sometimes 88 over 58 at its lowest! It was crazy low for me (and I would get a tad dizzy) but apparently totally fine to be in the 90/60 range. I read about what is happening physiologically and seems to correlate with the blood volume expansion (also critical part of a healthy placenta)

Anyway just as predicted by my doc my BPs in the 90/60 range started to go up and I am back to my baseline (anywhere from 110-120 over 65-75) with 48 hrs to go til delivery.

Good luck, all sounds well!

Second trimester dips are for all pregnant gals (except for those like me that did not get one and that was a big sign to watch out). That is a really low reading - I would maybe just chalk it up to the machine that you used.

Take care.

2nd trimester dip

Postby amandaoasis » Sat Aug 01, 638933 8:02 am

So I am 22 weeks tomorrow and things are going well thus far. I have been taking my BP a couple of times a weeks at grocery/drug stores. I understand these machines are not the most accurate, but with the number of different machines I use I feel like I get a good general idea of what my BP's are. For most of the pregnancy they have been running around 120-125/65-75. For the past week, my highest reading has been 112/63. I got one yesterday of 98/58 which is the lowest of my life!

That was a long way of getting to my question...Are second trimester dips only for chronic hypertensives? I have never had high BP's (even with HELLP I only got to 145/92) so I'm not sure what to think of the dip I am currently having.
