I was on Prozac, before i found out i was pregnant. The doctor said that if i could deal with it without it to do so, but if i felt that i "needed" to be put back on it than he would let me. He just advised that if you could do without any medicine while pregnant than to do so. So i quit taking it and hopefully everything is ok.

My ob was on zoloft during her pregnancy. Her brother died in her first trimester and she stayed on it through the whole thing.

Personally, I got off my zoloft, but my dr suggested to get back on it during my next pregnancy. Since my blood pressure seems to go up and down mwith my anxiety level.

I was on Effexor with my third pregnancy, but my doctors advised me to discontinue them entirely, but I was not able to. I got to the smallest dose I could tolerate. My boy was just fine. I hope you're able to find the right answer for you!

I took lexapro during the second 1/2 of my first pregnancy and effexor for the entire second pregnancy. I had a horrible second pregnancy but I do not believe it was in any way related to the meds. Effexor could have possibly increased my b/p but did not cause me to have pre-e and the other host of complications I had. My daughter has cerebral palsy now but I also believe this was related to the pre-e and not the Effexor. I can't imagaine how I would have handled the pregnancy if I had not been on my meds. If I had it to do all over again I would not change a thing. My doctor and a peri who I saw twice (actually before things went south) both felt that not being on effexor was much more detrimental to the baby than being on the meds could ever be. It is a tough decision, I wish you peace with whatever you choose.

I take a low dose of Effexor for panic disorder (and lots of anxiety) and it has been a godsend for me during this pregnancy. I consulted many doctors and specialists prior to conception about risks vs benefits for continuing this med during pregnancy and they all agreed in my case it was best to continue on. High levels of anxiety during pregnancy come with their own sets of effects to the baby and we often forget that.

I am not on zoloft, but another type of antidepressant, in the "SSI Inhibitor" family. We will be ttc soon and my OB recommended staying on them. She said the "risk" factors to baby are so minimal and maternal health far outweighs any danger to the baby. So, I will be staying on them - they work!

Hi Jennifer -
I was on Zoloft during my pregnancy and had a good outcome. Anna Grace was early and was small but it wasn't because of the Zoloft it was due to other reasons. I agree that it takes a toll on both you and the baby.

I hope this helps!

Anti-Depressants while pregnant

Postby jenseib » Tue May 23, 638299 9:03 pm

Hi Everyone,
I had post partum depression after the birth of my son and I took Zoloft and it did wonders for my mood. I'm 24 weeks pregnant and I'm starting to feel anxious and at least one day a week I have trouble falling asleep because of anxiety. My OB has advised me to start taking them again but I aprehensive because of the risks to the baby.
Has anyone been on Zoloft while pregnant and had a successful outcome?
I don't know how much longer I can go sleeping 4-5 hours a night. That can't be good for the baby either.
Jen
