Baseline 24-hr urine? Anyone else's OB do this?

If I get pregnant again, my nephrologist is recommending that I have a 24 hour collection during all three trimesters.

I did a 24 hour baseline with both pregnancies after my PE loss. And then they would check it with one during each trimester to be safe and any time I was ranging over 1+ on a dipstick (which was usually false because the test came back under 300)

I also had to do a baseline 24hr urine when first found myself pregnant with this one. I have had many since then and although they are a pain to do they really made me feel like I had a better idea of what my body was doing that I couldn't actually see. Kudos to your ob for doing this for you!

My OB had me do a 24 hour urine before I got pregnant. He said he wanted to make sure that my kidneys had recovered from my last go round with PE.

She is really on her toes... I am blessed with a wonderful OB. She had HELLP with her first pregnancy and delivered at 30w due to it. She has a soft spot for pre-e moms and past pre-e moms. She admitted to me once I made it to 35w with my DD that she was terrified for me when she dx me at 28w but didn't tell me that (for obvious reasons). It scared me but made me realize how much my pregnancy mattered to her and how much she really cared about me and my baby.

She said yesterday at the appt that she would be watching me like a hawk and that I should call if anything abnormal happens.

The good thing about an OB who's been through it is I will never have to beg for treatment or testing. :)

That's great that your OB is wanting to do the baseline and keep their eye on you. My OB had me do the baseline when I was 6 weeks pregnant.

I have to do mine this week(9wks+1day), but I don't want to do it at work so I was thinking of doing it Sunday. Any suggestions for trying to do it at work?

i am currently pregnant with #4 and did a baseline before I got pregnant and then just did another one a couple of weeks ago. I am still spilling protein but it has gone down since pregnancy just minimally. I am currently 13 weeks 5 days.

Hi Leighann

Thats wonderful that your OB will be doing a 24 hr test...it is very normal. My ob has already told me that once I become pregnant with #2..he will immediately do a 24 hr urine..at first visit!

Sounds like you have an OB that is on her toes! That is great that she is willing to do a baseline protein! Many of us have to beg, plead, and scream to get one when we feel we are deathly ill! :-)
