For some reason while I was preg last time, I had no desire to drink sodas. When I would take a sip of one, it just was not good to me, it just tasted so sweet and thick.

I drank one can of Mtn Dew every day of my pg. It was my saviour in the am when the stomach would start to revolt on me.[;)]

You know, I was extremely salt sensitive during both my pregnancies- so sensitive that I ended up having to fix food separately from my family or else I'd swell like the Michelin Man, and I never had a problem drinking my one very carefully rationed diet coke per day. In my experience, the sodium content wasn't a concern.

I am addicted to diet coke, but drank none during pregnancy. About once a month I would have a regular sprite, so don't think soda had anything to do with my BP.

I've heard that the caffeine is more of a problem for baby than mom. If we drink it routinely while pg, the baby is also addicted and will have withdrawl when born. This makes for a fussy baby, so it is wise to avoid caffeine, or only drink it occassionally.

For some reason when I'm pg, I get a really syrupy after-taste if I have more than a couple sips so, no sodas for me. When I was having my indigestion - or whatever it was - though, I must've gone through a case or two of Sierra Mist. I didn't notice any change in bp during that time.

I noticed that Diet Coke did raise my bp some, but then I am sensitive to caffeine. I think it depends on your body. I have to avoid chocolate from the afternoon on if I want a good night's sleep also. I am pretty sensitive to it...

I was addicted to Coke (the drink!) before I got pg so I when I became pregnant I begged my ob to let me still drink it and he said okay. I already had high bp before pregnancy and was on medication all through the pregnancy. And when I get stressed I drink a lot of Coke and at that time I had a very stressful job. So, I definitely think the caffeine led to elevated BP, especially right before hannah was born. But on another note, they wouldn't let me have it when I was first admitted into the hospital so we didn't know if my headaches were from pre-e or caffeine withdrawl. So, if I get pregnant again - I will not be touching any caffeine.
