Hey Lanny,

SO sorry to hear about all that you've been through! It can be really traumatic to have a perfectly normal pregnancy and then suddenly develop preeclampsia near delivery. I'd recommend you checking with your primary care physician about whether you should follow up with a specialist who can run some tests. Some (but not all) women who develop preeclampsia have an underlying clotting disorder, so it may be that your pregnancy has "unmasked" an issue. Additionally, it may also be that you are just still experiencing some lingering clotting issues because of the preeclampsia, but it's definitely worth checking out. You did not have HELLP syndrome, did you? That tends to be the complication with which we most often see bleeding issues, though nose bleeds don't tend to be a general issue, especially as far out as you are. So that being said, it may also be in no way related! But as you say, worth asking.

Hope that helps!
Best wishes,
Laney

Symptoms after Pre-E

Postby LannyV » Tue Dec 22, 2015 01:26 am

Hi! I had pre-eclampsia a year ago with my son. Weird thing was we didn't discover it until the day I went into labour... or rather, the doctors decided to induce me. I had a pretty traumatic birth experience which resulted in a blood transfusion, a minor surgery and an extended stay in hospital because of my high blood-pressure. After about 5 days I got the all clear to go home (I know.. 5 days isn't actually that bad, I was just really desperate to get home). Since then I thought my experience with pre-eclampsia was over... but shortly after my son was born I started to have nose bleeds quite frequently. Recently they come 3 or 4 times a week.. and a few days I've had them 3 or 4 times in 1 day. I've just read that pre-eclampsia can effect your body's ability to clot blood they way it's supposed to. So, what I'm wondering is if anyone has experienced symptoms after the birth of your child? My son was born almost a year ago. What else should I be looking out for?

I'm obviously going to go to my doctor with my concerns. I would just like to know what else I should be asking... and pushing for. Thanks to anyone with any information or tips!!
