Thanks therese
I am a little worried since I have been having some labor symptoms and am worried about her size instead of her health being the issue of weather or not she can come home. I am to the point where they said they wont stop the labor now so am trying to stay comfie

Re : Question about preemies and hospital stays
Sandra,
When Jonathan was in the hospital, weight had very little to do with when he got to go home. Making sure he didn't have episodes of apnea and could eat well enough were the main things, once he got off the vent, of course!! :)

Re : Question about preemies and hospital stays
Dont most hospitals have a weight criteria, just curious I am 33 wks and almost 34 and they think I will have her next wk. The last hospital said a take home baby was 35 wks and this hospital said that the take home baby is 34 wks. I too am curious.

Re : Question about preemies and hospital stays
I had my son 34 weeks and he had to stay 2 weeks. My girlfirend with twins was 35 weeks and a few days and one was 1 pound less in weight then my son, the other weighed more then my son, Both went home with her.

Re : Question about preemies and hospital stays
I know it depends on the baby's health, I'm just doing an informal poll, so to speak. Having had a 28 weeker, I'm very aware of the criteria for being able to go home and I know the farther along I get, the better the baby will do, I'm just curious of the experiences of other moms, never having been this far in pg before!

Re : Question about preemies and hospital stays
I think it totally depends on the health of the baby when born. My friend had triplets at 34 weeks and only one had to go to the NICU for a few hours. I was told rule of thumb with a micro preemie (less than 28 weeks) is around due date. But I have heard of 25 wkrs going home 4-6 weeks before due date. So I think the hospital always gives you worse case scenario, but bottomline, when the baby can breathe on it's own, regulate it's tempurature and feed properly, and there are no underlinying medical conditions keeping them in the NICU, they should be able to go home.

Re : Question about preemies and hospital stays
All deoends on the babies... A friend had twins at 34 weeks and they had to stay 1 week extra. Ky was born at 34 weeks and came right home with me. I have seen as early at 33 weeks go right home. As long as a baby can keep it's temp and fed, then they are usually allowed to go. What makes them stay is the Billi (in which case now they have those billi blankets that go home with you)

Question about preemies and hospital stays
I have a question - what's the earliest anyone's had a baby and gotten to bring the little darling home with them. DH works with a woman who had both her kids at 30 weeks and they were only in the hospital for three days. Just curious.
