Re : about attempting a 3rd pregnancy
I did see a specialist last month. A wonderful lady who also heads some of the research stuff at ****. She said I only had a 15-35 percent chance of having it again, and that they would be watching me super close to be sure I was okay. They said that I could have 1, maybe 2 c sections more depending on the scarring.
They put me on vitamins, calcium, fish oil and with do lda at 3 months along. They will also do a fetal ultrasound monthly and at 32 weeks starts fetal stress tests. I will check bp at home daily and maybe even protein. They will do a c-section at 37 weeks (if I can make it that far) no matter what. She was wonderful, and very positive. She did give me all of the warnings, but said that she was comfortable with us trying. She also said we needed to start NOW if we were going to. They then took 12, yes 12, vials of blood for testing, so we're waiting to see if I have any underlying conditions. We should find out any day now.
Soooo, we're trying :)Thanks for asking!!

Thaiba-I'm supposed to go see a doc tomorrow who is hopefully going to refer me to a specialist. I spoke with the specialists office, and the doctor is on staff at Duke University, but comes out to our area several days a month. They are anxious to see me, and said that they wanted to take blood from me and my husband to test, so hopefully we'll figure something out. I know what you mean about mind games in week 2. I alternate every other week that its a great idea followed by a week of panic and dread!

kbielce-They tested for all sorts of things after the 1st preg, and in the begining of the 2nd. After the 1st my bp went down and my cardio visit was fine. They tested for immune disorders (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis) and clotting problems, and all of those test came back normal.
breanne-I do only remember bits of the first pregnancy/delivery/post but with baby #2, I was clear and consciouss the whole time. They delivered at 36 weeks due to bp, but I was having no headaches/spots/seizures/anything. The doctor said 1 more baby based on c-section-he didn't even seem like pre e would be a big deal.
glimmer-they watched me and the baby last time, and she went to 36 weeks. Usually, even my 29 week with seizures delivery, the baby is small but seems to hold in there pretty good :) I'm hoping I continue to hold the baby longer each time. Someone suggested it was an immunity thing, and my body would be able to go a few more weeks each time. Is this accurate?
angie-I had a horizontal incision inside and out. They were going to let me labor with the last preg, but as I was early they were concerned it would take too long, and did the c-section.
Thanks so much everyone!

How many weeks are you? I had eclampsia with my first preg, at 25 wks but got preg 13 yrs later and got it at 23 wks this baby did not make it, because hosp policy own help babys above 24-25 wks. I am planning on another preg but would like to wait at least 1 yr.

I had eclampsia with my 1st, and was told that because I got it so bad and so early that there was a higher risk of me getting it again, just maybe not as bad? Doctors are so different. Also if you were like me, you probably only remember bits and pieces of everything, so try and remember what you went thru talk to those who were there and make a decision for yourself. There is no way to tell if your going to get it again, how soon, or how severe. Sad, I know im sitting here at 13 weeks wondering if im going to get it again or not. Good luck with whatever you choose :)

I am in the same boat - making this hard decision. I have talked to doctors just like you did some saying yes, some no...guess it's a choice you have to make, my MIL said, do what's in your heart...guess that's as good advice as any!
Do you have any treatable underlying disorders?

Hi J,
it's your decision and only your decision if you want to have another baby or not.
It's good that you talk to the doctors to understand your risk. I would ask them how they would
manage your care if you were pregnant again, so that you can pick one you like and
feel cared for. With good medical care, the risk to the mother is very small, because they deliver you as soon as the situation becomes life-threatening. However, you take the risk of having a pre-term baby
and again only you (and your husband) can decide if this is a risk you want to take. Take care.
