Same thing happened to me. My OB was not overly concerned for 2 reasons - baby was proportional - a big head is an indicator of a problem - because all nutrients go there and not to the body and low fluid which would indicate problem with the placenta. IUGR wou;d be if baby dropped below the 10th percentile. I know it is hard not to worry - have your OB explain to you why they are not worried.

AT 21 weeks nicholas measured in the 70%, then my bp began top rise we had another us at 25 weeks where he was in the 30%, 27wks 25%, 28wks level 2 us 40%, 32.5 wks 40% 4lbs on a level 2. My dr said that 10% was when he would get concerned but I do growth us every 2weeks and level 2 every 4. I like to think that bedrest, meds and psotivie thinking have stopped the trend of decreassing growth rate. THe mfm dr didn't seem concerned at all in the decreasing growth rate and everything showed up fine on the level 2. I did find out that growth does flucutuate and there is a 10% (I think) margin of error on the us. When is your next us? Could you have a level 2 us? It is scary though, I wihs you the best. I am sure everything is going to be great. I really liked having the level2 because then I knew everything inside was growing correctly. Best wishes.

This also happened to me. He has gone from measuring a week ahead, to a week behind. My doctors are not concerned because his growth is proportional. It does freak me out a little, though.

It's hard to really be accurate with ultrasound. I get measured every 3 weeks and it has fluctuated from 20-80 percentile. I asked what they considered IUGR and was told they don't consider it IUGR until they've had 2 readings, 3 weeks apart which have shown slowed growth or the baby is below the 10 percentile. Ultrasounds can be pretty far off especially the earlier you are. I was told my baby was 2lb 10oz and 2 days later when she was born she weighed 4lb 7oz. I hope at your next appointment it shows normal growth again. Hang in there.

Hi Stephanie, Here is a link for the chart I found...I'm not sure how accurate it is but I figured it was good for comparison purposes.

I can't offer much help as you can see from my other post, I am having the opposite problem and my baby is very big.

I was wondering if you found the growth chart on the web and could provide a link? We were never told what percentile our munchkin was in and I would be interested to find out.

We have another US on Wed. and I would also like to see if he is staying consistent.

Thanks in advance!

Baby Size

Postby jenn122 » Sat Jun 05, 2004 05:12 am

I had an ultrasound yesterday to check on the baby's growth. I am 31.5 wks and the baby weighed approx 3'10. They said it is on the small end of normal. I found a weight chart and at the last ultrasound at 27wks the baby was measuring in the 90th percentile and now it is in the 25th percentile. Has anyone else had this experience? Does it seem like IUGR or the beginnings of it?
