Lisa, it's my understanding that we now have the data to support induction for anyone with two readings of 140/90 after 37 weeks gestation, because those women have better outcomes if they are induced than if they are expectantly managed, and the babies have equivalent outcomes. It's the HYPITAT study out of the Netherlands...

I didn't develop PE with my 2nd and my repeat c/s was scheduled for right at 39w. Baby chose to come a little sooner though.

Mine planned from the start to induce at least a week early to try to avoid issues (at my insistence). Ultimately, I had a small rise in BP around 37 weeks, so I was told to take it easy for Thanksgiving weekend and we induced Monday night at 37w6d.

My problems are much worse post partum, but my second delivery was much smoother than the first. And since we knew what might happen post, we were more prepared and aggressive with that too. Much better experience second time around - even though my body basically did the same stuff!

My repeat c/s was scheduled for 39 weeks, but was diagnosed with PE at 29 weeks and as it became more severe, 37 weeks was the new "end" date, but I didn't make it that far.

I had severe pre-e at delivery/post-partum with #1, with onset of PIH around 35w. I was allowed to go a week past due with #2 because I was completely asymptomatic and ended up pre-e free.

I've delivered early due to developing pre-e again. This time around, the MFM is suggesting to deliver at 36/37 weeks mainly due to a classical c-section with my first daughter.

The mfm recommended delivery at 38 weeks for me because of diabetes and I asked him to please strongly tell the reg. OB to deliver at 38 weeks (reg. OB would have waited because of hospital policy). Fortunately as soon as I told him I was getting some odd spikes in my bp he arranged for me to be delivered and it just happened to be exactly 38 weeks. For me personally, I found the mfm to be much more watchful and proactive.

The thinking is that pre-e can move fast and furious at the end of pregnancy and some doctors want to induce in order to avoid that. I don't know if they would do it however if you have nothing showing up - they might do it for a slight increase in bp's, even if it is not full blown pre-e. I know that my peri wanted me induced between 37-39 weeks with my second pregnancy, but I was on bp meds since 13ish weeks. My OB would not induce before 39 weeks however without an amnio (per hospital policy when not medically necessary).

Take care.

Yes, my OB is scheduling my repeat c-section at 38w3d. I was with MFM and they recommended an amino at 37 weeks to check for lung development and then delivery, but my OB wanted to wait a little longer.

Question about subsequent pregnancies/delivery

Postby workingon7 » Wed Aug 14, 638622 7:35 pm

I am curious, for those of you who got pregnant again after having had PIH/pre-e, is it common for a doctor to induce you early (even a week or two), regardless of if you've developed it again? Is there any medical sense in doing so? (ie: induce even if fine, to possibly prevent it from getting to a point where it happens again?)

I hope I'm explaining this well enough. :) what has been your experience? Thanks.

Lisa
