In my previous pregnancy, I also had an onset of headaches and high bloodpressure early on - around 12 or 13 weeks. But at the time, I didnt know that the bp was high (130/80) because I wasn't aware of what was my 'normal' pressure (100/60). I had changed obstetrician since my first pregnancy and she did not have any files on me and did not ask about my previous bp's. And I was so ignorant. At 20 weeks I had lots of edemas and bp rose dramatically. And at the 20w the ultrasound the baby's was already small. At 22 weeks I was submitted to hospital and I had my daughter at 25 weeks due to HELLP.

I wish none of us had these stories. I started off with a normal pregnancy at my 20 wk check up my bp was sky high the dr. at the time sent me home on a lose dose of methadopa and told me to come back in one week. I made it to 21.5 wks and I was critical(pulmonary edema)and hellp syndrome. The only chance of survival was delivery of my daughter who lived for one hour which was amazing. This disease can be so swift and brutal and leaves behind so many angers and fears.Take care there are so many wonderful people on this sight that make it easier to get through.

While my story isn't exactly the same, I feel like I can relate to you. I had severe, class I HELLP at 19 weeks and we lost our babies. Evey specialist we saw said they'd never seen HELLP that early- ever. It is a lonely feeling.

Looking back, some of the "signs" were definitely there at 12 and 13 weeks . . . but they all were also normal pregnancy signs (i.e. headaches), so no one thought anything of it.

Hi there,

My first was born at 26+5 due to pe, but with my 2nd, my bp started to go up at 18 weeks, and I got protein around the same time. I was admitted at 19+6 and managed to hold on until 23+6, when sadly my baby died in utero from multiple clots in the placenta due to pe. So many of us on here are proof that it does start before 24 weeks. God, I wished it didnt. My baby, and many others here, might still be here today if I had got it 6 weeks later.

I have to say yes to both, it's been difficult and there's been a lot of healing in it!

But did you have any signs om PE with you other kids?

No, baby number 6! That is really fascinating that you wrote a book, I would think that would be a difficult, but healing process.

I can totally relate to that, ssaclolo6. Is this your first child?

My blood pressure shot up at about 15 weeks this pregnancy. It was 94/56 at the previous office visit, and yet the physician was insistent that I have chronic high blood pressure. I think that doctors want to wish away problems they can't do anything about sometimes. I am currently at 22 weeks gestation. I have platlets below 50,000 and my diastolic blood pressure is between 80-100 with total rest. I'm starting to get really scared. It's hard just trying to hang on day by day.

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm so happy to hear that... Not te PE/HELLP-part, but it feels so nice not being "the only one" anymore. I'm actually crying over here. So glad I found you!

People I tell my story to, even doctors, tend to say things like "Well, that just can't be, becuase PE doesn't show until 24 weeks... blahblahblah." OK. So I just made it up. Guess I fooled everyone really well, given that my baby was born ten weeks preterm, and that was still later than anyone of my doctors ever thought possible... *rolling eyes*

(But my OB was really so sweet, he tried to comfort me in w 20 saying, "well, just so you know, I've never actually had to deliver a baby before 25 weeks due to PE, so there's still some hope. You just go home, stay in bed and do nothing, and if you feel any changes whatsoever you get in here at once. Don't call first, because some young, unexperienced nurse might not take you seriously, and I can't take that risk.")

Yes, it it feels great being here. I actually wrote a book on becoming a parent to a premature child (in Swedish, so I guess you won't be able to read it except if it translated), I'm sending it off to be printed next week, and I'm not going to let my happily pregnant friends read it...

There are a lot of posters with similar histories, unfortunately. We've even got HELLP before 23 weeks represented here by multiple posters.

Glad you've found us. It's nice to have somewhere to talk where we don't have to apologize for scaring regular ol' pregnant women. :-)
