Thank you so much ladies. I am going in tomorrow morning to talk to my doctor that took care of me when I was in the hospital. He is such a great man and really cared about us. I am going to get his advise and see if he can give me another referral. I think that we are going to going to TTC soon. It will have been 6 months on the 3rd and it took us 9 months to get pregnant the first time so we will see what happens. I will let everyone know how it goes tomorrow.

I have had a classical c-sectiona nd I was also told to wait a year. We actually waited 18 months. I was allowed to go to 37 1/2 weeks and had a bikini cut c-section and the recovery was so much easier. It also probably helped that we brought our baby home htis time also. But I also think you should absolutely find a Dr. you are comfortable with. We have a nationally renowned Perinatologist here in Houston, but his bedside is not so great, so I found an OB who would work with the peri and had a great comforting bedside manner and was just extremely compassionate. So I would up seeing an OB, a peri and a cardiologist.

I also had a classical. I didn't want to wait at all to get pregnant after my little girl died. But my doctor did suggest that I wait a year to allow the uterus to heal. It is true that with a classical c-section you are at a much higher risk of uterine rupture. My doctor was also aware that I wasn't waiting a year. We began trying at 9 months. She said it wasn't ideal, but that we could work with it. It was very difficult to be told that I should wait a year. I was really hoping they would say only 6 months. For us, even though we began trying at 9 months, it still took the full year before I was finally pregnant again anyway. I guess part of me listened to the doctor [;)]

I will also have a repeat c-section between 36 and 37 weeks. If you don't like this particular doctor, I agree with the others, Keep looking. It is so important to have a doctor that you like and feel very comfortable with.

I had a classical, and they never said that about a year. They did say once a classical, always another Csection, no later than 37 weeks because they do not want contractions due to rupture issue. HOWEVER, the fact is that even with contractions, rupture is a RARE occurance.

Chelsea I would get a second opinion and find a dr that has some empathy for you. I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I had a classical c-section and was not told anything about waiting to get pregnant again. In fact, the doctors tried to talk to me about the fact that I could try again, but I didn't want to hear it. I told them I was never, ever going to have another baby. I was just so upset because they told me she probably would not make it.
I remember them telling me that I would absolutely have to have another c-section, and they said they would not let me go full term. That's all I remember. I do remember a book the NICU gave me that said if a woman who has had preeclampsia were to get pregnant before a year had passed, then the chances were higher that she would get pree again. But that book was written in the 80's, so I didn't take much stock in anything it said.
I'm with Julie, I would see others, and hopefully you will find one that you are comfortable with. I can't believe the nerve of that woman talking to you like that. She could have gotten her point across in a more gentle way. I saw several doctors after Hannah was born (she was delivered at a teaching hospital so I saw about 10 different specialists, doctors, interns, etc. and I had followup appointments there too) and not one of them mentioned the rupture possibility if I got pregnant before a year after her birth.
Good luck finding answers! Please keep us posted.

By the way, the pictures of your angel are just precious.

Chelsea,

I'm so sorry that you had such a disappointing appointment. I can't believe that your doctor didn't show even a little compassion after all that you've been through...

I can't help with the timing after a classical issue, I'm sure others will be on soon though to tell you what their doctors have told them. I would really, really, really suggest having another preconception consult with another doctor though. My husband and I met with three different ones before we found one that we absolutely loved and were so comfortable with. In fact, he's in your area I believe. I will email you.

Pregnancy after classical c-section

Postby chrismommy » Mon Mar 27, 2006 11:27 pm

I had a appt. with a peri. and it was awful. She was so mean to us. We are now trying to see if we can get a different doctor. I asked her what I can do to get my body ready for another baby. She said that because I had a classical c-section I needed to wait a year. She said that if I got pregnant now that I would be at high risk of a uterin abruption and that if that happened they might not be able to stop the bleeding and it could kill us both. I was so shocked that she was so blunt with us. My OB/GYN doctor had told us that waiting 6 months is a good amount of time to wait. My question is has anyone heard anything about this. My husband and I really want to try to have another baby. It will be a year in October.
