Well, last week I posted that per our results we were hoping to hold out for another 3-4 weeks and get my son to 37 weeks. I am here to let you know that things did not go as planned, however after a whirlwind few days, my 34 week gestational son, Sage Dean is doing very well in the NICU.
I was admitted on Sunday with high BP while in the middle of a 24 hour urine collection. Results of that came back on Monday and I was at 3 grams Protein...which had me sent immediately to the hospital with the NICU and induced. Sage was born Tuesday afternoon at 2:39pm. He weighed 4 lbs 3 oz but was breathing on his own and swaking like no tomorrow!! He has lost a little weight, so he is on a feeding tube as his sucking reflex is not there yet, but all in all, he is doing exactly as he should be for a 34 weeker.
My BP is still a little erratic, but if it settles down enough I will go home tomorrow. He will be staying for at least a week, maybe more but at this time, I dont care. He is here and healthy, which is all that matters to us.
I will keep you posted with more details as I get home and can update more.
Thanks for all your support!!!! Tara |

| My BP has been all over the flippin' place. They took it this morning while I was sleeping and my right arm was 160/106 and left arm was 144/94. Both arms have been up and down all day and night, but seem to have settled in the 130's/90's which they seem to be ok with. I have to go see my doc tomorrow but they think that it was such a rapid onset that my body just didnt have time to adjust and is still trying to figure it ut. |

congratulations! My son was born at 34 weeks and didn't have his sucking reflex either.
I think it took him about a week, but because he only wanted to breastfeed they kept him for 13 days to make sure he was gaining weight (I don't think they believed he was sucking!)
It seemed like it took forever for him to start sucking. Don't get discouraged. He'll be home really soon! |

| Congrats! I hope you are both feeling strong and home soon. Our 35 weeker did about 10 days in the NICU learning suck/swallow. Hopefully, Sage will pick it up quickly. |

Thank you all! I am very happy to report that Sage put on some weight for the first time Saturday night, they took out his IV and he also took 20 out of his 35cc from a bottle yesterday when we were there. It was a good weekend! The milestones are starting to roll in and each one puts us closer to him coming home.
I am feeling really good so far. The magnesium is out of my system (thank god) and it was rough for a few days while that continued. I wasnt prepared for the night sweats or the shaking....yikes! Thankfully my sister in law (who is an OB nurse) was able to calm me down and let me know it was par for the course. Some people it hits really bad, other people not so much. I happen to be one who it hits hard.....and I will be very happy to never have to have magnesium again :-( |

Congratulations on Sage's arrival.
I had issues getting my bp regulated, ended up in the ER one day after being home. It took at least 3-4mos for me to feel better on bp meds.
We did the NICU roller coaster for 6 weeks and I know of the milestones. So glad all is well. Are you able to kangaroo? Have they let you put him to breast? |
