Combined vitamin C and E supplementation not only have no potential benefit in improvement of maternal and neonatal outcome but increase the risk of gestational hypertension in women at risk of preeclampsia and low birth weight in neonates.

This is why, in preeclampsia, no one says "can't hurt, might help!" any more. (Well, maybe not *no one*. But if your care provider is saying that, you might really push for his or her reasoning.) It seems entirely plausible that supplemental antioxidants might help, but it turns out they make you sicker and make the babies smaller.
