The best performance was obtained in the identification of early-onset PE (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.97). CONCLUSION: Measurement of sFlt-1 and PIGF and calculation of sFlt-1/PIGF ratio can be performed quickly and in a platform available in clinical laboratories. This is a substantial step forward in bringing the determination of these analytes to clinical practice in obstetrics...
So, odds are we will shortly have a test which, while not perfect, will likely pick out most of us who need closer monitoring. This looks to miss around 5% of preeclamptics, but it will give them another diagnostic tool, which could be particularly helpful for chronics -- oh, your pressures are up *and* this ratio's off, that's PE and not just chronic htn -- and which will do a pretty good job of picking out the early-onset gals.
