Re: will i get preeclampsia for third time?

When I asked my peri about another pregnancy after three 'high-maintenance' ones- he said, "you've had good outcomes, there's no reason to expect that you wouldn't have another" So, what I took from that is that I should give up the dream of the 'what to expect' pregnancy and accept what my pregnanc...

Re: scared about postpartum pre-e/HELLP

What a pickle! And how scary- but I wonder if you call the clinic number if there's an answering service and a doctor on call? It might be worth a call to see.... and calling the doc over the weekend might make it easier for them to fit you in first thing tomorrow. What you're seeing with your BPs i...

Re: What IV Fluids should be avoided during delivery with pr

@brandi: the good news is that plenty of women with preeclampsia are able to avoid the mag! Most of it is determined by how sick you are when they decide to deliver and whether they suspect that there's central nervous system involvement- which can lead to eclampsia. I've often said that the forum i...

Re: What IV Fluids should be avoided during delivery with pr

Me! Me! I know about this! For some reason, after I have my babies, I swell up like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man- in large part because of the extra fluids they give you for Csections. I ended up readmitted with severe HTN and PP preeclampsia with my first, and with pulmonary edema after my third. ...

Re: Urinary Tract Infections after PE

Isn't that interesting?! FWIW, I've been around these forums for a long time, but I haven't seen anyone else describe recurrent UTIs after PE. Doesn't mean there isn't a connection, but I haven't heard before. Most kidney effects from PE are pretty brief and they'd see ongoing kidney impairment in a...

Re: Questions For The Veterans

That is a great question-- it sounds like you've got all the bells and whistles that would make your pregnancy a good one to watch. The difference between your pregnancy and the average preeclamptic pregnancy is that for the most part, unless you get *really* sick, the doc isn't going to be able to ...

Re: protein levels?

Hey, that happened to me, during pregnancy #2- I stayed right around 200 mg of protein for the entire pregnancy, but it never developed into full preeclampsia. My complication that pregnancy was low amniotic fluid (another consequence of a crappy placenta). If you're one of us full feature underlyin...

Re: third time a charm?

Yep, it was the tail end of the antioxidant phase- most docs had discontinued using them, then you'd hear about one doc prescribing antioxidants-- but I can't count how many 'cures' we've had.... docs swearing by one method or another. The negative to that is that since there might be different caus...

Re: Heart Disease and PE

I work in health education and disease prevention and I think you just hit upon the difficulty of the field- you want people to understand that there's risk enough to get their attention, but not enough to scare the bejeezus out of them. I think this may be one of those cases. We're really just star...

Re: third time a charm?

I agree totally with riehlism entirely on the whole- see a MFM thing- even the experts seem to agree on this one, and there aren't many things that they're all unanimous on. I can offer, though, a longer-term perspective on what you see with the boards- I think I registered the afternoon after the f...
