Re: New and pretty overwhelmed
Take this for what it's worth (the advice of a random person on the Internet) but yes, I would switch. I was thinking "I don't like this OB" about halfway through your post. 1) He does not communicate clearly and effectively with you. (This, in my book, is a fatal flaw.) 2) He felt it was his place ...

Re: post severe PE and PCOS and low dose contraceptives
I'm sorry for your loss. BCPs don't really 'normalize' your period (I know doctors don't always explain this correctly). They create an artificial regular cycle; your "period" is a progesterone withdrawal bleed, like the one you get after taking Provera if you've ever done that. This is not a bad th...

Re: Chronic hypertension controlled on meds - why induce?
I was in a similar situation. Chronic hypertension, superimposed PE first pregnancy, controlled on meds second. In my case, I was having a planned repeat section. My OB was willing to do that anytime between 39 and 40. She didn't actually give me a hard deadline, but I can read her fairly well and b...

My only thought is that they don't meet the specific criteria of 140/90 and 300mg. Other than that, I'm not sure what criteria their doctors could be using.

Re: Second Pregnancy Advice after Early Severe Pre-E?
Welcome to the forums! Often, how OBs and MFMs split duties is down to the specifics of their practice (ie, some MFMs do sole care, some MFMs only do consult). So visit frequency, who does what, etc, will depend on that. Clear as mud? Generally, they will want a baseline 24 hour collection in your f...

Re: being vigilant helps...right?
Hi Kat, I also have chronic hypertension. In my first pregnancy I was inadequately monitored and developed severe preeclampsia. By the time it was caught, I needed an emergency C-section. For my second, I was medicated and heavily monitored. I felt like an egg, and I worried the entire pregnancy tha...

Re: Pressures rising despite meds
Yes, I had a 24 hour run twice in my 3rd trimester when my BP went up a bit. I wound up not needing a med adjustment in the 2nd half of pregnancy. I was warned I might as I'd needed my dose cut in the 1st trimester (I was getting dizzy), but I was so tightly controlled that I stayed within acceptabl...

Re: fatty liver of pregnacy/ HELLP and 3eg pregnancy
Pregnancy with Mirena is very unlikely. If it happens, there is a much higher risk of ectopic or miscarriage, or you may miscarry when they remove the IUD. I do know of one term pregnancy on Mirena (the IUD was removed and the pregnancy continued--interestingly, she had severe preeclampsia that preg...
