My Story

Author:  Anonymous

I had never heard of preeclampsia before my son was born.  This is our story.  I had spent most of my life waiting to have a natural childbirth.  All I wanted was to feel the pain of childbirth and ALL of it.  The night before my lil'peanut was born, I felt like I had the flu.  I didn't think anything of it because I thought it was just normal pregnancy symptoms.  My body ached, I felt nautious, my head hurt, etc.  I went in for a non-stress test and ultrasound that morning, and was sent over to labor and delivery.

It was explained my blood pressure is high and their are proteins in my urine.  I didn't know what they meant when they said severe preeclampsia.  They explained that they were going to induce labor, I was full-term at 38 weeks.   A few hours went by and I had only dialated 1 cm and our baby was going into distress, with each contraction his heart rate dropped and as his dropped mine seemed to go up further.

The OBGYN explained they needed to do an emergency c-section.  I started criyng.  This was my first pregnancy that I had carried to term. I somehow dreamed I'd have a normal delivery.   I turned to my husband and said make the decision I can't.

At this point I really was in and out of it.  I didn't know what was going on, the room was spinning and I was feeling worse by the moment.  My husband asked the doctor what were the risk if we continued.  She explained I could have a seizure and worse case scnerio both baby and mommy could die.

Within in 30 mintues I was hearing our son cry and hearing he was a healthy baby.  I'm blessed that we both survived and are healthy.  As I hold him 3 months later, I try not to think about the what-ifs.
