My Story

Author:  melissa

My story is very different to most women with HELLP disease. I felt fine, then the next day I was sick. I woke up with terrible heartburn and severe back pain when I was just 32 weeks pregnant. I figured I would be ok, but went to the hospital just in case b/c my first son was born early. So, I went to the ER and they took blood. They immediatly sent me to labor and delivery. Next, the life flighted me to our university hospital. They explained my situation was scary b/c my platlet levels were in the 40's. I managed to postpone delivery so that my baby could receive steroids. I made it to the next morning then they told me I had to deliver now. Due to my low platelet levels they sedated me and I had a c-section. My son was born at 32 weeks weighing 2lbs6oz. Afterwards I slowly began to feel better through the week. My baby stayed in the NICU for a month and a half. I was released after 4 days. I would love to have another baby, but am scared because I don't know if it is worth the risk.
